Our basement

So for the past 4 weeks we have been remodeling our basement. It finally got finished yesterday. We meant to take "before" pictures but forgot until the whole basement was primed. For those that remember, our basement was painted brown much like the right side of the stairwell in the picture below. It had tan carpeting. Upon removing the carpeting, we found old tiles under the carpet covering most of the basement and linoleum under a small section of the carpet near the garage and bathroom. We had to tear up all of the tiles because many of them were loose and it was recommended that we take all of them out so that the floor didn't feel uneven when the new carpet was laid. We took these pictures while we were in the process of taking out the tiles after the red paint was on and the white paint was on its first coat.

After making the kids live upstairs for almost a month (being that the basement is a psuedo-playroom), and after spending most of our time working on this project during naptimes and after the kids went to bed, we are finally finished. The furniture still has to be moved back in but I honestly think that Gabe and Claire wouldn't mind having the basement left as an open space for a few days since they are so excited with just being allowed to go downstairs. After the carpet was installed, we took Claire downstairs first and she loved the red paint. She kept touching it and pointing at it with a happy look on her face. She also crawled around quite a bit in the evening as well as took a few steps for Daddy just to show off. Gabe skipped his nap yesterday to watch us touch up the painting after the flooring was done. He also was quite excited about the carpet. The guy who installed it gave him a piece of scrap around lunchtime and he took it in to Daddy who was napping and said "I like this. It's really soft." He carried that sample around with him all day until the carpet was in and then proceeded to tell us how much he likes the whole basement because the floor is soft.

THE END!
